Where is the plan for Mimico GO?
Residents know the many challenges surrounding our Mimico GO Station. Generations of volunteer MRA directors have been fighting the unprecedented neglect our station has faced. It’s time to remind Metrolinx that we are still here, and we are still waiting.

What HAPPENED SO FAR
April 22, 2026: After a motion by Councillor Amber Morley, City Council votes to call on the Province and Metrolinx to provide a clear update on what’s planned and how decisions are being made. The MRA had submitted a letter to City Council (find it here at Communications) as Transit Oriented Communities (TOC) were on the agenda that day. You can watch the recording of the meeting on youtube as well.
Councillor Amber Morley (motion):
“I have a motion. It reads that city council direct the city manager, in consultation with the Director of Transportation Planning, to request an update from Infrastructure Ontario and Metrolinx on the status of Mimico GO station, any plans for a future TOC at that location, and an outline of the risk assessment practices undertaken before entering into a TOC.
As I mentioned — or as I alluded to in my line of questioning to staff — residents have been left with a station first built in 1967 that includes limited customer access and insufficient parking, along with a large neighbouring hole in the ground where a housing development should have been.”
Narrator: This is where Vandyk Properties planned to build a mixed-use community with thousands of housing units, retail, public, and green space. But those plans are no more.
Councillor Amber Morley:
” We not only had one developer go into receivership — we actually had two developers start and stop over the last decade. And our community has been waiting all along for the necessary and promised improvements, including accessibility upgrades to a very well-used station at Mimico GO.
While communities benefit from successful TOC public-private partnerships, the potential loss for communities when they are unsuccessful — which we have repeatedly seen — is very significant. Future TOCs need to emerge only after a rigorous risk assessment, to ensure that communities aren’t left with unfulfilled promises and that partners are able to deliver on the complete communities that were planned and agreed to. This continues to be a sore point in my community, and Mimico GO is just scratching the surface.”
Narrator: Metrolinx shelved plans for a planned Park Lawn station. Yesterday we found out that [it was] another rejected station. Unfortunately, we have no sense of when the Park Lawn GO will be delivered.
Councillor Amber Morley: “We’re continuing to engage very actively with the proponents at Park Lawn GO as well, and are really hoping to find a path forward and some momentum on the really important infrastructure and higher-order transit that’s been promised to be delivered in this community.
We’ve heard from colleagues about — and we’ve chatted and debated at length — the Waterfront East LRT, and the incredibly large and robust community that’s going to be coming to that area and needs to be well served by transit. In Etobicoke-Lakeshore and the Humber Bay Shores community, the community has already arrived. We have significant density and significant development that has all been predicated on a complete community served by higher-order transit that does not yet exist.
The province itself has included Park Lawn, for example, within their PMTSAs and future transit-oriented communities, without any station in place and no clear path forward. So it’s really incumbent that we work collaboratively — and with thanks to our colleagues, who I know are continually engaged in those conversations with Metrolinx and others — but we need to have better processes in place, better systems in place, so that communities are not left for decades without the promised infrastructure and the ability to navigate in a high-quality community that serves their needs.
So with thanks to my colleagues and hope that you will support this motion — that’s all for me.”

Mimico Has been waiting for Step-FRee PLATFORM ACCESS FOR A LONG TIME

November 28, 2025 Response by MPP Lee Fairclough to Minister of Transportation
November 26th 2025 Petition Response
May 29, 2025 Metrolinx responded to our letter, see below. The question when the station will be accessible remains unanswered.
Events

We’re starting with a focus on accessibility upgrades, which were promised to be completed by 2023 and are legally required by January 2025.
To mark Canada’s National AccessAbility Week, we will gather on
📆 Tuesday, May 27th, from 4–6 PM,
📍 on the lawn across from the Royal York Rd stairs.
We will be joined by our MPP Lee Fairclough and Deputy Mayor Amber Morley.
We are inviting Metrolinx to join us and share their expected completion date for the long-overdue accessibility improvements—to remove the barriers our residents with mobility devices and families with strollers face every day at the most neglected GO station in Canada.
PETITION – SIGN BEFORE May 28th
We invite you to support us by signing our petition (signatures must be on paper and include full name and full address) to be presented in the Ontario Legislature.
Please find us on 📆 Tuesday, May 27th, from 4–6 PM,📍 on the lawn across from the Royal York Rd stairs to sign the petition in person.
Alternatively you can print it yourself and maybe you know someone who would also like to sign it.
The Legislative Assembly of Ontario has rules for petitions outlined here: https://www.ola.org/en/get-involved/petitions and it states: The petition must be written, typewritten, or printed. Emailed, faxed, photocopied, or online petitions are not allowed. Petitioners need to be residents of Ontario.
To the Legislative Assembly of Ontario:
Whereas Metrolinx committed that a fully accessible Mimico GO station would be in place by 2023;
Whereas the Purpose of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA) includes “developing, implementing and enforcing accessibility standards in order to achieve accessibility for Ontarians with disabilities with respect to goods, services, facilities, accommodation, employment, buildings, structures and premises on or before January 1, 2025”;
Whereas residents with mobility challenges, and those travelling with strollers and young children, are currently unable to use the Mimico GO Station to travel to work, school, or visit friends and family, causing undue hardship;
We, the undersigned, petition the Legislative Assembly of Ontario as follows:
1) Call on the Minister of Transportation to direct Metrolinx to immediately appoint a dedicated Community Liaison Officer for the Mimico GO Station project to receive design input from residents who experience accessibility barriers; and establish
quarterly communication with residents on progress and timelines.
2) Call on the Minister of Transportation to direct Metrolinx to begin construction of the accessibility retrofits in 2025, and that the project swiftly moves to completion without any undue delay.

Hi there. As a commuter I see the concerns with the inaccessibility of this station on a weekly basis. I won’t be in town the evening of the 27th but would love to get my signed petition in your hands. Is there somewhere I can drop this off ahead of Tuesday?
Thank you
Thanks Kim, We will be in touch via email to provide an address for drop off before the 27th. Also the Park Cleanup on Saturday 10 am (see our website) might work for you. Appreciate your support! Cheers
So frustrating. My 80 year old mum comes to visit several times a year. I travel to and from downtown ok on my own, but when she comes we are forced to drive and park, even when it is slower and more expensive to do so. Would also love her to be able to come to Mimico from the train but with luggage it is a huge pain.
There is no excuse – three flights of stairs to access the platform!!
