What’s changing in Mimico?

Hi neighbours. Thanks to the dozens of you who took our “A Tale of Three Stations” newsletter as motivation to email the Ministers responsible for Metrolinx and our train stations. ❤️

There was a post on /r/Mimico that we felt was worth addressing in a newsletter, to get everyone on the same page. This isn’t a complete list and we are starting the “Mapping Mimico” project to collect & share more local knowledge.

  1. We are getting a new pool! Amos Waites Park: Pool and changing rooms are getting upgraded! Construction is expected to be complete in fall 2027.

We are getting a new pool!
  2. We got a pebble beach! Humber Bay Park West, Phase 1 was opened earlier this summer after just a few months of construction. Phase 2 looks like it’s almost done.

    We got a pebble beach!
  3. Grand Avenue Park has been open since last year. Have you been there yet?

  4. Two new parks coming to Portland & Audley Street!

  5. The City acquired more land east of Sand Beach Road Parkette to turn it into a park reaching up to Lake Shore Blvd! More waterfront for all of us!

  6. Motorized Watercraft Exclusion Zones were created: All motorized watercraft are prohibited from entering the MWEZ. According to the Toronto Port Authority: The Zones are monitored by the Toronto Police Service Marine Unit to ensure compliance. The City says it will evaluate the effectiveness of all of these actions taken during the 2026 boating season to inform future steps for improving personal watercraft safety.

  7. Miles Road Parkette: We wrote about this in “Addressing the elephant in Mimico” and are confident the funding goal for the Toronto Heritage plaque will be reached soon. Thanks to everyone who made this possible! ❤️

    Thanks Berta P.!
  8. Our historic Mimico Train Station is finally becoming a space available for our community. It’s not as big as the Community Hub the City is building at Six Points (see below) but it was included in the City’s budget and at the pop-up event this summer residents got to see the plans and provide feedback. Construction Start: Spring 2027.

  9. Mimico Neighbourhood Mobility Plan: After several incidents, speed bumps were introduced on a number of streets. Mimico Avenue is also getting speed cushions. On the two streets that had Automated Speed Enforcement, the cameras were removed and speeding is back.

Speed Cushions are coming to Mimico Ave.
  10. Community Environment Day: 2025 & 2026 conveniently in Mimico. Popular!

Drop off your household hazardous waste directly in Mimico once a year.
  11. Public EV charging now in Mimico: Neighbours who can’t install a charger at their residence can still go electric. Plug in close to home and charge overnight for about $6, as part of Canada’s largest municipally owned charging network: 500+ stations and growing. ⚡🚗

TPA won a Green Mimico Award this year for bringing Public EV Charging to Mimico
  12. PMTSA: Many of us now live in a Protected Major Transit Station Area. We reported in 2025 what that means. Inside this area, the Province basically requires the City to approve high density. Some of the development proposals you see in the 3D model below go back many years and started much smaller. With the zoning changes some towers got taller but as you know none have started construction. Remember 327 Royal York? Tracking and analyzing these continuously changing development proposals is very time consuming. Have you considered volunteering?

We are creating a 3D model of Mimico with the proposed developments in it.
  13. Mimico Creek: There have been several spills in recent years, and residents are worried about pollution. The good news: the trail-and-bridge project can finally restart, since the Legion Road design made it into the City’s budget.

    Thanks Andrew for the photos
  14. Our favourite: Mimico Centennial Library open 7 days a week! Look at all the upcoming fun:
