Provided by the City of Toronto & Toronto Hydro as part of the Furnace Upgrade Program. ā Meet Mimico residents who already made the switch: Heat Pumps, Photovoltaic, Backup Batteries and Electric Vehicles; Data & Science Keep Kids Safe on Their Way to School What are the safety implications of Doug Fordās plan to remove Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE)Ā in Mimico? We haveĀ two ASEĀ locations in Mimico, both inĀ Community Safety Zones near schools: Mimico Ave., west of Station Rd. Stanley Ave., near Elizabeth St. Thanks toĀ Torontoās Open Data initiatives,Ā we can easily see how many tickets these ASEsĀ have been issuing every month. Open Data is an important tool to hold government accountable. OnĀ Stanley Ave., there has been aĀ significant and steady declineĀ in speeding incidents since ASE was deployed ā fromĀ 227 issued tickets in April 2025 to 73 in July 2025. ![]() Residents have been asking for speed limit enforcement to make Mimico streets safer for a long time. Donāt Believe the City of Toronto Data? Ask SickKids. AĀ 2025 study by SickKidsĀ found: ā(ASE) cameras reduced the number of speeding vehicles by 45 per cent in urban school zones.ā We can see this effect right here in front of our schools in Mimico. Dr. Andrew Howard, Head of Orthopedic Surgery and Senior Scientist in the Child Health Evaluative Sciences program at SickKids, explains: āSpeed is the single most important factor in pedestrian injury risk. This study shows that ASE can be an effective way to reduce that risk, especially in areas where children are most vulnerable.ā How Will Removing ASE Make Mimico Streets Safer? Our Councillor, DMĀ Amber Morley, has already spoken in Council on this issue. We now request that Mimicoās ASE cameras remain in place ā becauseĀ all data and science show that they are working. Helsinki (Finland)Ā made international headlines recentlyĀ for going an entire year without a single traffic death, with ASE.Ā Toronto streets have seen 14 pedestrians killed in traffic in 2025 so far.Ā Unfortunately, Doug Ford closed Queenās Park fromĀ June 9 to October 16Ā ā aĀ 17-week summer recess.Ā When Queenās Park reopens, we ask that our MPPĀ Lee FaircloughĀ press Doug Ford and the Conservative Party of Ontario: * How exactly does removing ASE make our children safer? * Why ignore local data, international data and respected SickKids research? Ā Working together for a beautiful, vibrant, and safe community. info@mimicoresidents.ca mimicoresidents.ca |
