Early this week we learned about this application and its details. The application is due to be discussed at a mediation session at the Ontario Municipal Board tomorrow and again at the Board on December 11th. It proposes to change the Mimico-by-the-Lake Secondary Plan. A pre-hearing session is to be held on December 19th .
The Community and Councillor Grimes worked very hard to put the Mimico-by-the-Lake Secondary plan in place. Community consultation was thorough and lengthy. Changes to the plan should not be taken arbitrarily by a developer and without consultation with the community.
Is the Councillor aware of this proposal? What is his position? Have City planning staff reviewed the change? Did they approve the change?
We realize that there are always possibilities for the plan to be changed, however we expected consultation and an awareness of City review recommendations.
The MRA is very concerned and disturbed at this situation as have not been informed of this very important and precedent setting change. The lack of appropriate notice is alarming.
