Re: Call from Mimico residents to support our Charter Rights and Freedoms
Dear MPP Hogarth,
The Mimico Residents Association (“the MRA”), wishes to express our concern regarding Premier Ford’s stated intention to take the unprecedented step of invoking the notwithstanding clause of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms to override yesterday’s court ruling and re-enact Bill 5 (the Local Better Government Act). Such a step would deny your constituents their fundamental legal rights and freedoms protected by the Charter and goes against the democratic values we would expect to be observed and respected by the Premier of Ontario.
As outlined in our previous letter, the MRA has serious concerns regarding the impact of enacting of Bill 5 on our community, particularly in the middle of the Toronto municipal election process and without community consultation.
On behalf of the Mimico community, we formally request that you, as our MPP, stand up for us at Queen’s Park this week and vote against this legislation.
We look forward to your prompt reply regarding this urgent issue.
Sincerely,
Chris Moore
President
Mimico Residents Association
Cc: Premier Doug Ford, Mayor John Tory, Councillor Mark Grimes, MPP Andrea Horwath, MP James Maloney
Thank you MRA for making my feelings known.
I suspect that it will be falling on daef ears!!!!
