CALL FOR ARTISTS: Mimico Neighbourhood Murals 2017
Application Deadline: Monday August 7, 2017
Artists are invited to submit an application to paint a mural on one of eight Bell Canada outdoor utility boxes in the Mimico area during the third week of September, as part of the 2017 Bell Box Murals Project.
Artists will be selected by a community jury, with preference given to artists who live or work in Mimico.
The deadline for applications for Mimico is Monday August 7. For application details, email mimicomurals@gmail.com
The Mimico Bell box murals are a partnership between Ward 6 Etobicoke-Lakeshore Councillor Mark Grimes, The City of Toronto, Bell Canada, Lakeshore Arts, Community Matters Toronto, and the Mimico Residents Association. Paint donated by Benjamin Moore Paint.

Urban Hero Awards: Vote online for your top choice
From the Guardian: Our nominees are in and now it’s time for the people to vote! The Urban Hero Awards received more than 60 nominations across eight categories – an amazing group of people by the sounds of nominator comments. From teachers to neighbours, to gardeners and caregivers, student activists to business leaders, our selection of nominees includes people from all walks of life and all corners of Toronto.
From July 7 to August 13, 2017 people are welcome to vote for their top choice. Eight ‘People’s Choice’ winners will be determined based on who receives the highest number of votes. Spread the word and support your nominees! Note, only one vote is allowed per IP address per day. Multiple votes per day will be discounted. After the public voting, another eight finalists will be selected by the Urban Hero Award organizing committee. The 16 Urban Hero Award winners will be announced this fall and celebrated at an awards gala.
The following Mimico Residents have been nominated: Barb Wallace under the Good Neighbour category as a representative of the Party in the Park team. Chris Szarka and Michele Nolden are also nominated in the Arts category.

Uke Can Sing – Arts in the Parks

Want to increase the cuteness in your life by 200% and learn how to play the ukulele and sing along, too? Come one, come all to Uke Can Sing: a free ukulele and singing workshop for absolute beginners, led by the infamous singing ukulele ladies of the TTC Subway, K Funk and Lady Ree! If you don’t have a ukulele, you can borrow one of ours – we are providing 30 free ukuleles on loan per workshop! (First come, first served – we’ll need them back at the end of the 1.5 hour lesson, though). This is an outdoor event in a public park. Bring your own water, blanket, and sunscreen.
