| 3. Mimico Go Accessibility | Michael S wrote a summary and call to action (unbiased with no party affiliation). Action: Michael S. – To be circulated in the newsletter the week of Feb 24th Uncertain Future: Mimico GO Station The province has removed the requirement for a developer to upgrade the station, allowing the new owner of the property north of the station (KingSett) to proceed with their plans (which we have reviewed) without making any improvements to the station. Previously, Vandyk’s Grand Central Mimico plan included much-needed upgrades, including a new, fully accessible Mimico GO Station. However, after Vandyk entered receivership, Metrolinx terminated the agreement, and the province revoked the Minister’s Zoning Order (MZO), effectively removing the requirement for upgrades. Meanwhile, an independent accessibility project — a tunnel with elevators at Blue Goose Way (see link 1) — was required to be completed by January 2025 under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA). However, Metrolinx and the province have missed that deadline, and neither they nor the local MPP can provide a timeline for its completion—only vague assurances. (See link 2 for non-existent community documents and compare with all the updates for other stations.) Want to see improvements at Mimico GO station? We’re working to push for much-needed upgrades—please contact us if you’d like to get involved.[1]: https://www.metrolinx.com/en/projects-and-programs/lakeshore-west-line-go-expansion/what-were-building/mimico[2]: https://www.metrolinx.com/en/projects-and-programs/lakeshore-west-line-go-expansion/get-involved/community-documents Mimico Post Office: Permanently Closed After last summer’s torrential rain, the post office inside the IDA Pharmacy suffered damage and was temporarily shut down. Unfortunately, we now know it will not be reopening. For some services, an alternative is available just across the street at NetPrintShip (2405 Lake Shore Blvd W). The next Canada Post location is at Shoppers Drug Mart (2850 Lake Shore Blvd W). |
