Talking about accessible things in Mimico, but also FREE & for everyone:

Mimico Arts Jam is South Etobicoke’s only free and accessible large-scale community arts festival.

We are lucky to have Lakeshore Arts (LSA) right here in Mimico. This year they have already produced amazing events enjoyed by so many of our neighbours (thanks for letting us know) and tomorrow (Saturday) they are giving us another opportunity to get together and enjoy art activities for free in Mimico.

Lakeshore Arts has a mission to reinfuse arts into daily life, democratize the arts, and use a community-powered approach to address community issues. They utilize the arts to build more connected and resilient communities and are building a community hub that is welcoming, inclusive, and fun.

‘Welcome Home, Welcome Here’ – explore the concept of ‘home’ with Mimico Arts Jam‘s FREE art activities!

  • Poetry with Gracian, Kemi, & Danny (Q Summit Participants) – Respond to prompts about what home, community, and environment mean to you, through free write or blackout poetry.

  • Punch Needle & Tufting with Vincy & Solange – Get a practical, low-pressure introduction to both crafts using pre-made templates designed by our artist facilitators.

  • Cyanotype & Lumen with Jackson & Jayan – Explore camera-less image-making through collaborative cyanotype and lumen printing, inspired by artist Cassils’ Etched in Light project.

  • Immersive Walk-Through with Carmen, Angie & Christian – Explore an imaginary house through three interactive components that use storytelling, sound and building to explore ideas of how spaces influence personal experiences, relationships and communities.

  • Collective Banner-Making with A. & Amara (LSA’s BAR Artists) – Create a community banner using paints and markers, responding to a variety of prompts.

  • Collective Textile Map with Apanaki – Create a small piece that reflects your personal connection to home, using fabric, texture, and colour. Add your piece to the large collective “map” of the community.

  • Community Mural Colouring with Andrea & Yasaman – Help bring a shared mural to life in this paint-by-numbers activity inspired by water, nature and the lakeshore.

Bonus: There will be a Screen Printing activity with Jennie, by donation! Show your love for Lakeshore Arts and take home a unique design!
