A lot has happened since 2018
We’ve come in and out of a global pandemic, enjoyed four Olympic Games and India surpassed China as the most populous country in the world.
What has not happened is anything at all at Mimico GO.
Not even the temporary accessible station Metrolinx promised in 2018 was built (to be ready in 2023). The Vandyk receivership started long after the construction of that temporary station should have started.
On October 25, 2018 we were told that the developer next door would rebuild the station, delivering “a new, accessible station building, pedestrian tunnels and elevators”, “at no cost to the taxpayer, and build new transit-oriented development around the station” and Metrolinx put in writing “a fully-accessible temporary station will be in place by 2023”.
Ontario’s 2019 Budget had called Mimico “the first of many” stations delivered “at no cost to taxpayers”; eight years on there is still no barrier-free access to transit at Mimico GO, and taxpayers are paying for design all over again (and half a million for monitoring the hole).
