In 1912, A.W. Miles built “Miles Park” right here on the lakefront, complete with a zoo – elephant, giraffes, monkeys and more. Today the site is home to many residents of Mimico Estates.

Starting from our MRA tent at the “Back to School MRKT”, the Etobicoke Historical Society will lead us over to Miles Road to see the houses from that era still standing. Along the way we will talk about how this stretch of lakefront was once the playground of Toronto’s old money and its nouveau riche.
🛫Did you know? A.W. Miles Funeral Directors handled the funeral of Air Marshal William Avery “Billy” Bishop in 1956.
The walk ends at Miles Road End Parkette, which the City is refurbishing following last year’s community consultation.
Help put up a plaque for Mr. Miles
Resident Berta P. has provided slides documenting the progress that has been made (click the Download button to see what it looks like now or walk over and enjoy).
MRA is seeking financial support to pay for a Heritage Toronto sign that will highlight the importance of A.W. Miles to the life and history of Mimico.
Neighbours have already raised $4,400 towards the $6,000 needed to order the sign.
If you would like to financially support the A.W. Miles sign, you are welcome to contribute directly to the MRA.

Protecting our Community from Flooding
Mimico got off lighter than other parts of the city in the recent storm, but after so many basements flooded in 2024, a lot of us want to be ready for next time. Green Mimico is organizing an event, similar to the popular Heat Pump event last year.
First speaker has been confirmed (more soon):
- Dr. Blair Feltmate, Intact Centre on Climate Adaptation at University of Waterloo
- Practical/cost-effective actions that homeowners and renters can take to limit their exposure to basement flooding.
Please register soon as we expect a full Mimico Library auditorium on October 21st.
