What’s happening in and around Mimico?

Thanks for joining us at Mimico Square last Saturday for Mother’s Day MRKT. Together with Etobicoke Historical Society we hosted two Historical Walks. Residents learned about Dr. Godfrey, a single mother in the workforce and the origins of Mimico Road.

Cycle Toronto offered FREE bike tune-ups. We expect they will be back to Mimico Square at another MRKT this summer – you’ll get advance notice from us when they do!

Have you noticed increasing numbers of neighbours commuting by bike or e-bike? Maybe it’s the gas prices, or the GO Station’s issues. Either way, biking seems to be almost as fast as the train or driving anyway. It won’t work for everyone, but if you’re considering it and have questions, get in touch — we can connect you with neighbours who already commute by (e-)bike.

On a Tuesday morning, Google Maps suggests it takes roughly the same time to bike from Birds & Beans to Union Station as it does to take the train or drive.

Welcome 100 new newsletter subscribers

It took 19 years to get 948 people to subscribe to the MRA newsletter.

Since our AGM in March, 100 new subscribers have joined! That’s you! Welcome neighbour.

We believe it’s not just the proximity of our homes that we have in common. We all suffer directly or indirectly from the neglected Mimico GO station and we all benefit from a safe neighbourhood where residents know each other a little bit and take care of our shared infrastructure together.

The MRA board is a group of volunteers who believe a little time spent organizing a Halloween dance for the kids — or helping neighbours prevent basement flooding — is worthwhile.

Want to help us? Send us an email.

To celebrate the MRA’s 20th Anniversary and all the volunteer hours that have gone into strengthening our community, we will meet September 19th at Mimico Square together with the 3rd Annual Mimico Food Fest.
