Jane’s Walk: Diversity & Delights of Mimico!

Jane’s Walk is an annual festival of free, community-led walking conversations inspired by Jane Jacobs, a journalist, author, theorist, activist, and proud Torontonian.
On the first weekend of May every year, Jane’s Walk festivals take place in hundreds of cities around the world. Jane’s Walks encourage people to share stories about their neighbourhoods, discover unseen aspects of their communities, and use walking as a way to connect with their neighbours.

Diversity & Delights of Mimico!
Darlene Bradley & Michael Schwanzer, Mimico Residents’ Association
Mimico’s diversity ranges from nature’s glory to tasteful treats. We begin in Mimico square on Lakeshore Blvd W, where markets, and dances and speakers entertain and inform the community from April to October. We head towards the lake and begin our appreciation of nature. The birds, beavers, turtles and the water itself will delight the walkers. Heading east we will walk back up to Lakeshore Blvd and stop by some of our local shops (Birds&Beans coffee, Guud Dae gluten free shop, Ed’s Scoop ice cream etc…) From here we will head north into the neighbourhood where we will admire the various types of homes from old, original houses to modern renditions; from single family dwellings to the small multi-plex buildings that fit seamlessly into the neighbourhoods. No visit would be complete without a visit to the Mimico Centennial library where walkers can browse the offerings and use the facilities (if needed!) Finally, we make our way back to Mimico square. NOTE: participants can take part in a Scavenger Hunt if they so choose. One will be provided for each participant.
