SUMMARY:Dance Together Festival: Afrofusion with Zahra Badua
DESCRIPTION:Explore African culture through dance while exploring your individuality and self-expression! This workshop will introduce us to the diversity within African street styles. Blending Traditional and Contemporary (street) West African styles\, this dance style incorporates waist and core isolations\, footwork and hip movements.  Open to all ages and levels of experience.  \nZahra Badua is a multifaceted artist whose work is rooted in her passion for dance\, education\, and the cultural richness of the African diaspora. Trained in Traditional West African dance (Ghana and Guinea) and various West and Central African street styles\, she has performed\, taught\, and choreographed across Canada and the United States. She is the founder of ZahraMoves\, an educational and performance-based brand dedicated to sharing African diasporic dance as both movement and knowledge. Beyond performance\, Zahra works as a rehearsal director and stage manager on numerous artistic projects in Toronto. She also serves as the Production and Engagement Coordinator for dance Immersion\, a Black-led organization supporting dancers and dances of the African diaspora. We guarantee you’ll be giggling as you dance! \nStephania Woloshyn is a Toronto based Juno-nominated and Dora award-winning dancer/singer/musician\, and multidisciplinary designer. DESCRIPTION:In this Soul / R&B Line Dance workshop you’ll soak in the positive vibes and learn moves that you can take to your next social event. Learn the classic smooth stepping style that emerged from Black social gatherings in the 1970s and has taken the world by storm in recent years. We’ll cover the basic steps\, a couple of the classic line dances and one or two of the contemporary hits that have gotten folks moving at parties and weddings. Whether you are a newbie\, a seasoned dancer\, or just want to brush up on your Electric Slide\, you’ll enjoy this dance session set to your favourite Soul and R&B tunes. No partner needed!   \nRhea is a dance instructor with a passion for leading classes that are welcoming\, inclusive and fun. Rhea has an MFA in Dance and 20+ years of experience teaching dancers of all ages. This background along with training in Dance for Parkinson’s and as a Canfitpro certified group fitness instructor\, provides the foundations for classes that are structured to be just the right amount of challenging\, while being safe and that feel good in your body. Her Soul / R&B line dance sessions are designed to be joyful and accessible for all bodies and levels. Come free up and learn some Soca social dances while we Dance Together in community!  \nChantal (Mad Chan) is an active dance artist\, choreographer and performer in Toronto. Chan has hosted dance events for Black Health Social Services Hubs\, the Raptors Hoops for Health\, Jamaica Day\, Caribana\, Kiddi Carnival and Black Student Advocacy groups throughout Peel schools. She has performed with Carnival Spice\, Bella Divas\, Tribal\, Blue Jays\, PanAm Festival and many more.
