SUMMARY:A/C or Heat Pump?: A Comparison for Ontarians
DESCRIPTION:A Webinar with Drew Tozer & Toronto Home Energy Network \nRegister here: https://ed8876.wixforms.com/f/7440758127911241399 \nIn Toronto\, having summer cooling has gone from luxury to necessity. Even though heat pumps are usually much quieter and cheaper to run than traditional A/Cs\, their higher price tag can make people pause. \nThis webinar will cover the trade-offs between installing a heat pump and an A/C\, as well as differences in operating costs\, so you can make an informed decision for your home and your wallet. \nThe date is Wednesday\, April 15\, from 6:30-7:45 pm. Register below & bring your questions—we’d love to see you there 🙂 \n~About the speakers \nDrew Tozer is a certified Energy Advisor\, author of easily the best book on heat pumps in Canada (Feel-Good Homes; free eBook here)\, and co-founder of Foundry Heat Pumps. In 2022\, he electrified his 1920s double-brick home in Port Hope\, Ontario\, which massively improved summer & winter comfort for his family\, boosted indoor air quality\, and reduced his home’s carbon pollution by 95%. (Kudos\, Drew!) \nToronto Home Energy Network builds community groups across Toronto. These groups provide personalized energy coaching\, technology demonstrations\, and make getting a heat pump what it should be: a smooth\, stress-free way to improve your home’s comfort and sustainability.

SUMMARY:Jane's Walk: Diversity & Delights of Mimico!
DESCRIPTION:Jane’s Walk is an annual festival of free\, community-led walking conversations inspired by Jane Jacobs\, a journalist\, author\, theorist\, activist\, and proud Torontonian.\n\nOn the first weekend of May every year\, Jane’s Walk festivals take place in hundreds of cities around the world. Jane’s Walks encourage people to share stories about their neighbourhoods\, discover unseen aspects of their communities\, and use walking as a way to connect with their neighbours.\n\n——————-\nDiversity & Delights of Mimico!\nDarlene Bradley & Michael Schwanzer\, Mimico Residents’ Association \nMimico’s diversity ranges from nature’s glory to tasteful treats. We begin in Mimico square on Lakeshore Blvd W\, where markets\, and dances and speakers entertain and inform the community from April to October. We head towards the lake and begin our appreciation of nature. The birds\, beavers\, turtles and the water itself will delight the walkers. Heading east we will walk back up to Lakeshore Blvd and stop by some of our local shops (Birds&Beans coffee\, Guud Dae gluten free shop\, Ed’s Scoop ice cream etc…) From here we will head north into the neighbourhood where we will admire the various types of homes from old\, original houses to modern renditions; from single family dwellings to the small multi-plex buildings that fit seamlessly into the neighbourhoods. No visit would be complete without a visit to the Mimico Centennial library where walkers can browse the offerings and use the facilities (if needed!) Finally\, we make our way back to Mimico square. NOTE: participants can take part in a Scavenger Hunt if they so choose. One will be provided for each participant. \nWalk Start / End Location: Mimico Square – Mimico Ave & Lakeshore Blvd W\nDuration: 1 Hour \nTheme: Arts and Culture\, Environment and Sustainability\, Food and Drinks\, Lived experiences and personal perspectives\, People and Communities \nBreaks encouraged\, Dog-friendly walk\, Family-friendly walk\, Washroom
